recent short films.

nichts ist geschehen. is my very first fully digital animation. everything you see is illustrated from scratch and animated using Adobe After Effects.
the audio was given and the visuals are meant to underline the impact of it:

with something in the water., i took the skills learned from the clip above and used them to support my first live action short film with digital effects.
the whole movie was scripted, shot and edited within 10 days, so please don't judge it too harshly:

fall.

a project i have been working on for the past month, resulting in eight pictures that were exhibited at my school.
my intention with these orchestrations was to describe that very moment when the sudden realization of the pointlessness of the own existence hits us in the middle of our everyday lives. i tried to underline this feeling of a deep fall by depicting various elements in weightless condition on the pictures.

one morning with Hayao Miyazaki.

i had the great pleasure to have spent a morning in the presence of one of the most prominent artists ever.

Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎駿) is the director of some of my favorite films, such as "Princess Mononoke", "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" or "Spirited Away", just to name a few. therefore, i was very excited to meet the famed Japanese Academy Award winner in person!

mister Miyazaki owns a small patch of wood in the metropolitan area of Tokyo which acted as an inspiration for his animated film "My Neighbor Totoro". he seems to have put a lot of money and effort into saving this oasis of green from vanishing.
there is an annual event where he and volunteers (90% of which are his fans, i guess) free the soil from litter and weeds. that's exactly what we did today.

my friends and i managed to talk to Miyazaki-san for a moment, and he even  bumped into me accidentally while we were working, which i think is kinda cool :P

i had a great morning. thanks to T. for inviting me!

i went to this huge festival in Kawagoe over a month ago. never got to show you the pictures i took there. it was first time for me to ever go to such a traditional japanese festival. it was quite an experience.

the photos are in chronological order, i'll leave them uncommented for the time being.

tokyo train tales.

living on the edge of this huge metropolis, commuting has become a very central aspect of my daily life. it feels like half of my day is consumed by sitting standing in the train. in this small place, people are forced to share a part of their life's time with strangers. there's no escape, so to speak. i find this kind of confrontation very interesting, and my mind starts to fabricate hundreds of stories around the fate of those people.

meeting fischli / weiss.

last week, i had the great honor of spending a day with Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss in Kanazawa.

the video below shows the first part of their most famous achievement, i'm sure you have seen it before:

there currently is an exhibition dedicated to their work in the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and i was invited to the opening ceremony / party as one of the few 'inofficial' guests. thanks to my cousin who is a close friend of the artist duo.

this blog.

hello^^

welcome to my blog! it's the first time i'm doing this kind of thing, so i'm kindof excited... :)

for those who don't know me yet, i wrote something like an introduction on this page, but it's not very informative. the best way to get to know me is to follow this blog, i promise.

as some of you know, i'm leaving for a 5-month stay in Japan very soon. this seems to be a great moment to start blogging. i always wanted to do this. publishing my very own photos along with my thoughts and experiences in text form. how cool is that?

i call this my photo_graphic diary because, well, it is.
i want to post photos and other visual media here that i don't show on my deviantArt-account. and i want to post texts here that simply don't fit into a tweet or two.

so, please be looking forward to the updates! thanks for reading, and see you soon :)
