recent short films.

nichts ist geschehen. is my very first fully digital animation. everything you see is illustrated from scratch and animated using Adobe After Effects.
the audio was given and the visuals are meant to underline the impact of it:

with something in the water., i took the skills learned from the clip above and used them to support my first live action short film with digital effects.
the whole movie was scripted, shot and edited within 10 days, so please don't judge it too harshly:

a project i have been working on for the past month, resulting in eight pictures that were exhibited at my school.
my intention with these orchestrations was to describe that very moment when the sudden realization of the pointlessness of the own existence hits us in the middle of our everyday lives. i tried to underline this feeling of a deep fall by depicting various elements in weightless condition on the pictures.

my first nude scene.

so i participated in this short film of a friend of mine.
my role isn't major, but i am honored to be on screen with all those great actors!

it's a short movie about all the secrets a hotel bed keeps. filmed entirely in 5-star hotel "Schweizerhof" in Lucerne. it's nominated for the "Swiss Hotel Film Award 2011", and we'd be glad if it would actually win this competition. all we need is people to vote for us, so:

i am actually pretty happy how it turned out. have a look:

jun, part four.

here's part four of jun's portfolio-shoot. i was planning to upload those long ago.

colors and the internet.

i finally found out how to display the colors of my photos on this blog correctly!

while this might not change much for my dear visitors, it's big news to me.
i got some negative criticism a while ago saying that some content was too starkly contrasted and the colors were irritatingly strong.
you know, i used to save my images with over-the-top saturation, because the colors always looked washed out and low contrast when put on the internet. i never knew why. plus, my old sony vaio computer i used seemed to have a really odd color calibration, which made it hard for me to judge how others saw my pictures on this blog.

but now,  i bought this macbook pro and learned how to save my jpegs in a web-friendly color profile sRGB, which seems to work. it was Diana's idea to try that, and i'm very thankful. go check out her beautiful art on

see, constructive criticism really helps! gimme more :)

one morning with Hayao Miyazaki.

i had the great pleasure to have spent a morning in the presence of one of the most prominent artists ever.

Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎駿) is the director of some of my favorite films, such as "Princess Mononoke", "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" or "Spirited Away", just to name a few. therefore, i was very excited to meet the famed Japanese Academy Award winner in person!

mister Miyazaki owns a small patch of wood in the metropolitan area of Tokyo which acted as an inspiration for his animated film "My Neighbor Totoro". he seems to have put a lot of money and effort into saving this oasis of green from vanishing.
there is an annual event where he and volunteers (90% of which are his fans, i guess) free the soil from litter and weeds. that's exactly what we did today.

my friends and i managed to talk to Miyazaki-san for a moment, and he even  bumped into me accidentally while we were working, which i think is kinda cool :P

i had a great morning. thanks to T. for inviting me!

kawagoe matsuri.

i went to this huge festival in Kawagoe over a month ago. never got to show you the pictures i took there. it was first time for me to ever go to such a traditional japanese festival. it was quite an experience.

the photos are in chronological order, i'll leave them uncommented for the time being.

film festival for free.

thought it was time for another update. i feel like every day of my life here in japan is worth an entire blog post, but i will only focus one big thing now in order to save time ; )

so i was given a total of 5 free tickets for screenings at the Tokyo International Film Festival.

jun, part one.

this is part one.

as i told you before, my friend Jun asked me to take some pictures for his modeling portfolio. he's a great dancer and a very nice guy, i was more than happy to work with him.

i think they turned out nice, but please give me some feedback on the pictures! there will be more of him on this blog soon ;)

by the way, Jun has a personal blog he updates almost daily, so check out if you are interested.

tokyo train tales.

living on the edge of this huge metropolis, commuting has become a very central aspect of my daily life. it feels like half of my day is consumed by sitting standing in the train. in this small place, people are forced to share a part of their life's time with strangers. there's no escape, so to speak. i find this kind of confrontation very interesting, and my mind starts to fabricate hundreds of stories around the fate of those people.

coming soon.

a friend of mine here in Tokyo asked me to take some pictures of him for his modeling & dancing portfolio. he's an ambitious dancer and such an incredibly nice guy, so i am more than happy to support him in this way.

and of course, it's a great experience for me, too ;)

i hope i'm sure some of the photos i took over the last 'meetings' turned out nice enough to publish here, so please be looking forward to seeing some of them on this blog soon!

meeting fischli / weiss.

last week, i had the great honor of spending a day with Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss in Kanazawa.

the video below shows the first part of their most famous achievement, i'm sure you have seen it before:

there currently is an exhibition dedicated to their work in the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and i was invited to the opening ceremony / party as one of the few 'inofficial' guests. thanks to my cousin who is a close friend of the artist duo.

do not try this at home.

this is what happens to stupid people who wake up with a hangover and try to do their harmless morning routine with plenty of distracting thoughts wandering in their heads.

i spontaneously stayed over in my friend's flat, so i decided to use the stuff there to rinse my contactlenses. in the morning, i put one of them in my eye
turns out the fluid i've been using was some kind of non neutralised preservative agent for contactlenses acid. turns out this acid just doesn't feel good in my eyes. turns out it actually says 'CAUTION' on the package of the fluid.

maybe i started to moan out loud as soon as the lens got in place, either way, i scared the hell out of my friend. it hurt so bad, i couldn't open my eyes and my tears wouldn't stop flowing. it was awful.

the torture was over after a minute when i grabbed the lens with like four fingers and started washing my eye.

that was three days ago, and it's still red now... :3

this blog.

welcome to my blog! it's the first time i'm doing this kind of thing, so i'm kindof excited... :)

for those who don't know me yet, i wrote something like an introduction on this page, but it's not very informative. the best way to get to know me is to follow this blog, i promise.

as some of you know, i'm leaving for a 5-month stay in Japan very soon. this seems to be a great moment to start blogging. i always wanted to do this. publishing my very own photos along with my thoughts and experiences in text form. how cool is that?

i call this my photo_graphic diary because, well, it is.
i want to post photos and other visual media here that i don't show on my deviantArt-account. and i want to post texts here that simply don't fit into a tweet or two.

so, please be looking forward to the updates! thanks for reading, and see you soon :)
